A Message From University of Minnesota's Colleges Against Cancer

On Friday, April 27th, 2012 more than 2,000 members of the University community will gather at Bierman Athletic Fields for the 9th annual American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life at the University of Minnesota to “GOPHER A CURE!”

The Relay For Life at the University of Minnesota has grown to be one of the largest student-run events on campus, and it is the largest collegiate fundraiser in the Midwest.  Last year, Colleges Against Cancer hit the million dollar mark for money raised for the American Cancer Society in the past eight years and in 2011 alone, we raised $222,000 in the fight against cancer. This year’s goals include gathering 2,500 participants and raising over $250,000 to benefit the American Cancer Society.

In previous years, the Relay has been held at the University Fieldhouse; however, our event has outgrown their facilities, which has forced us to move outside.  We would like to inform you that our event will be held overnight from 6:00pm until 6:00am.  We will be having amplified sound throughout the night, but we have arranged for all louder entertainment to be before midnight.  We have been informed that some sound may carry over from the field, so we apologize ahead of time for any inconvenience.  If any issues do arise, please feel free to contact us through our American Cancer Society Staff Partner, Brea Atkinson.  Her contact information is listed below.  The UMPD will be present throughout the evening, this way, we will be able to immediately deal with any issues that may arise and accommodate any requests.
