Who: FairShare Farm is one of SECIA’s community gardens – the one with vegetables, at the corner of 22nd and Fairmount SE. FairShare Farm Gardeners share the work, the produce, and the skills they bring to the gardens. In 2015, our fifth year, we want to continue to expand the community aspect of our space by building our long-desired outdoor community bread oven.
What: Our intent is to build the oven ourselves, with expert leaders, just as we built the raised beds and the garden shed. This will provide another great hands-on learning activity for all interested. The oven build and the subsequent oven use will be open to people in the greater community. The fire starter and bread baking classes will be open to the gardeners, greater community members, and oven sponsors. What we need now is the money, the expertise, and the training.
Why: We need funding for: planning events to determine the final design, materials for the oven build and simple storage, experts builders & instructors (Sunny Day and Bearpaw), oven operating supplies, fire starter training, bread baking classes, SECIA management: coordination of the build volunteers/students, scheduling, communications, etc., future maintenance and supplies.
How you can help: By donating to this project – Send your donation directly to the SECIA office with Bread Oven in the subject line, and receive a ticket for a burger basket and one beer / beverage redeemable only on 8/19/2015. Buy auction items (cash, check or Paypal by mobile). Come and join us at Sporty’s!
What's in it for you?: In return you get a true community oven, chances to learn how to build and use the oven, opportunities to bake your special artisan breads, and increased engagement with your community!
