Changes to Staple Food Ordinance

On October 20, the City Council’s Health, Environment and Community Engagement met to discuss proposed changes to the city’s Staple Food Ordinance. This would ensure that Minneapolis residents have healthy food options no matter where they shop. The proposal states that stores would be required to stock minimum amounts and varieties of items from the following 10 staple food categories: milk; cheese; eggs; meat or vegetable proteins; fruits and vegetables; 100% juice; whole grains, whole grain cereals; canned beans; and dried peas, beans, and lentils.
