The annual Como Cookout on September 21 was another success! Como residents munched on corn, baked potatoes and all-beef hot dogs or Halal chicken while serenaded by local musical groups including Prairie Fire Lady Choir and Alma Andina. The event was held at Van Cleve Park where residents could visit a bike repair station, a face painter and even take a turn in the inflatable bounce house set up on the baseball diamond. Local businesses and organizations set up tables around the park offering activities and  information on their missions and services. The entire event was low-waste with a demonstration booth focused on educating attendees about the new organics recycling available to residents. SECIA offered small kitchen compost buckets as well as biodegradable bags for residents invested in reducing their carbon footprint. Thank you to everyone who attended, especially the park staff, SCR, Southeast Christian Church, Two Fat Guys and a Grill, Gopher Mods, and the U of M athletes for all of your support and sponsorship.
