Free Crocheted Coral Reef Workshop

Interested in crocheting a coral reef? Join in the world's largest community art and science project! Presenter: Margaret Wertheim from the Institute for Figuring Co-hosted by the Minneapolis Institute of Arts Learn about environmental impacts on coral reefs and how to crochet your part of this seascape. Your work will help form a satellite reef and be publicly displayed this fall at the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization. This event will be a way to celebrate, and bring attention to the intrinsic values of coral reefs, in an artistic way using fiber. Bring your curiosity and a crochet hook! "This is the world's largest participatory art and science project, the Crochet Coral Reef combines mathematics, marine biology, environmental consciousness raising and community art practice. More than 7000 people around the world have helped to make these gorgeous woolen seascapes, which have been exhibited around the world. One of the project's creators, Margaret Wertheim, will be here to help us get started crocheting our own local satellite reef."
