In June, the SECIA Environment committee discussed future biking routes through and around Como.  Robin Garwood, Policy Aide to CM Cam Gordon, and Simon Blenski, Bicycle Planner, were on hand to discuss the new Updated Protected Bikeway Plan for the City of Minneapolis.  The image above shows the Updated Protected Bikeway Plan for the City of Minneapolis relevant to SE Como. This updated plan was recently passed by the City Council.  The idea behind this update is to put in place 40 Miles of Protected Bikeways by 2020. Protected bikeways are the safest way to transport Bicyclists of all kinds. Although they are the safest, they require the most space to implement. Given the small amount of space that is available on 18th Ave, north of Como Ave, the city has yet to determine what they are going to do to connect the Diagonal Trail with the 15th Ave Protected Bikeway.  The City representatives stated that the next step would be to convene a public meeting with Como residents on the portions that affect Como.  The time frame for this meeting is as yet undetermined.  If you have any questions regarding the development of the routes or future discussions, please contact your council member.
