TCEducate Named “Local Public Health Hero”

posted Jul 30, 2015, 11:47 AM by GreenIntern@comogreenvillage.info

The City of Minneapolis recently named SECIA a “Local Public Health Hero.” This award was presented by the Minneapolis Health Department as part of their National Public Health Week “Healthy Where You Are” effort. The ceremony was held on Thursday, April 9th in the City Hall Rotunda and recognized “Heroes” who are helping the Health Department achieve their goals for a healthier and more livable city. SECIA won for our TCEducate series.

This is an especially rewarding recognition because, like many SECIA initiatives, we knew our efforts to close the knowledge gap between state regulators and neighbors was necessary but had only anecdotal information that others thought the same.  Our TCE intern, Charlene Sundermann, is completing a final report as part of her internship requirements. The Center for Urban and Regional Affairs (CURA) will add our project to the many tools they offer to communities.  We will also share our model with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) to better the experience of other communities that find themselves in similar situations.
